July 20, 2015  Despite concerns that scores would come back lower than previous years’ with the introduction of the new Smarter Balanced tests aligned to the Common Core Standards, Oregon students scored significantly better than expected, according to preliminary results shared with the Albany Democrat-Herald. Though more work remains as teachers continue to teach to higher standards, these scores are ‘a promising early sign’ that students are up to the challenge and that teachers’ efforts are paying off.
